To mark the 50th anniversary of the 25th of April and the advent of democracy, the Banco de Portugal joined the commemorations with a program of events covering the economy, society, and history. This exhibition was one of those initiatives.
All the selected content focuses on Portugal in 1974 and 1975, seeking to understand the role played by the Banco de Portugal in establishing the new regime and the impact of the Revolution on the institution itself.
It is difficult to look at the past without using the present as a reference point—without understanding what the country was like and how it has evolved since then. Two sections of this exhibition address this need, helping to shed light on the significance and impact of the 25th of April, both then and now.
